Things are building up for the game on Sunday. Just to remind you there will be a game between two Philippine PBA teams – Talk&Text and San Miguel (3pm), followed by the Slingers against Smart Telecom National select team (5pm).
I believe that almost 8000 tickets have been sold, so it is sure to be a great spectacle. I know I am excited about the game and playing in front of that many knowledgeable fans.
The team is in training, with various promotions/appearances in the next few days to help promote the game. If you haven’t gotten your ticket yet, then you can do so at sistic. There are still tickets available.
On Monday we played Garuda (Indonesia) in Jakarta and ran out comfortable winners by 20+ points. Sorry I cannot remember the score and I have not seen any box sores. But, we played a more effecient and solid game than our first game in Jakarta. I had 20 points (6 3-pointers) and we also had 6 others in double figures – a good all round effort. Both Pathman (13 points) and JJ O’brien (10 points) made the most of their opportunities on court.
Eric looked to be more comfortable on the court too and after taking a few lay-ups finally threw down a dunk, much to our and the crowd’s delight.
Here is a video interview with Pathman when we arrived in Jakarta… enjoy.
Last night we played the Britama team here in Jakarta. Having all players back on the court took a little time adjusting and after most of the game being a 10 point lead in our favour, we ran over the top to win 73-52.
There were some great highlights, such as Sam Harris’ monster dunk with three players hanging off of him, getting the foul too. It was good to see Eric Sandrin back on court finding his feet again and of course I was back after missing the Malaysia games. Chris was the only one not to play as he had a back soreness.
We are going to Jakarta today to play two games. On Saturday, we play Garuda IBL and on Monday we play Satria Muda Britama, who are coming to play us in Singapore in December.
I know nothing about these teams, but understand that basketball is pretty popular in Indonesia. It should be a good hit out with our full team playing these games before we come back to play on the 30th. Yes, that means Eric is back after his long rest with injury.
Hopefully I can get access over there to blog about the games.
Thanks to Nic and IAH games, I was able to get a copy of NBA 2K9 for the XBOX 360 and having been playing it over the last few days. I have been a fan of NBA 2K since about the time I discovered 2K6 and instantly made the change from NBA Live to the 2K series. Since then, Live has been behind in every facet of the game – NBA 2K makes the game feel and look so much more realistic. It’s kind of like how I’ve been a Pro Evolution Soccer gamer for the last 5 or so years as it has been miles ahead of FIFA (although I think FIFA got them this year, but thats for another post). As you can tell, I like my sports games.
On Saturday, the team took to the Kallang Bowl to test out our skills and try something different instead of training.
I took the video cam along and took some footage. This is the first time I’ve edited video – I’ve been doing it the last 3 hours and came up with this short clip.
Hope you enjoy all my hard work (I know I had fun making the video).
Last night I was lucky enough to get a ticket to see Rihanna at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
I’d heard that she had been in Australia, doing back to back concerts with Chris Brown, which would have been awesome to go to. But in Singapore, she was coming along solo.
It was a packed house at SIS and everyone seemed ready to scream and dance. Rihanna’s last hit was Disturbia and she opened with this track as she descended to the ground on a platform. However, her microphone wasn’t working! We could see on the video screens that she was singing and no sound was coming out. She was trying to stay professional, but after a while she looked over to the audio guy and gave a look that said “what the hell is going on ??” It was probably the worse way to start a concert. But to her credit, she kept the crowd involved, wave and gesturing to everyone.
The rest of the show consisted of all of her hits, and no other ‘less famous’ songs. As a result, the whole concert only lasted about 50 mins. I talked to a friend after and they had paid $228 to watch the show. Not sure if that’s getting your money worth – compare that to the Chris Brown-Rihanna combo in Australia where tickets were about A$143 (I think, correct me if I’m wrong) for the two in one.
The Slingers have now confirmed the double header on Nov. 30:
A historic double-header match will unfold at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Nov 30 (Sunday), in what is likely to be one of the biggest basketball events ever to hit Singapore. With some 7,000 tickets sold on the first week of sale, a capacity crowd is expected to pack into the 10,700-seater stadium as it gets set to rumble with an official regular season match between two of the contending professional teams in the Philippines Basketball Association (PBA) – Talk&Text and San Miguel Beer.
